In a signing day surprise, Michigan State has flipped 2024 three-star quarterback Ryland Jessee from Utah State. Jessee signed his National Letter of Intent with MSU on Wednesday.

Jessee joins fellow 2024 three-star quarterback Alessio Milivojevic and Oregon State transfer quarterback Aidan Chiles as MSU's 2024 signal-callers. It is possible walk-on Andrew Schorfhaar returns as well.

Jessee had been committed to Utah State since late June. He was offered by now Michigan State head coach Jonathan Smith and offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Brian Lindgren while they were Oregon State. Now, he will play under them and the rest of the coaching staff in East Lansing.

“I chose Michigan State because of the coaching staff and the culture that they brought with them from Oregon State,” Jessee told Spartans Illustrated. “I couldn’t be more excited to be a Spartan and be a part of the tradition of Michigan State.”

Jessee visited Michigan State this past weekend, he told Spartans Illustrated.

In addition to Michigan State, Utah State and Oregon State, the Helix High School (La Mesa, California) quarterback had scholarship offers from Nevada, Georgetown and San Diego State.

The 6-foot-4, 195-pound Jessee ranks as the No. 96 prospect in California.

Michigan State lost all three of its scholarship quarterbacks from 2023 — Noah Kim, Katin Houser and Sam Leavitt — to the transfer portal this offseason. The Spartans planned to sign multiple class of 2024 quarterbacks, and have now done so with Jessee and Milivojevic, while also bringing in a transfer (and the presumed 2024 starter) in Chiles.

MSU heavily pursued four-star quarterback Tyler Cherry as well, but he ultimately committed to Indiana.

Jessee will graduate early and enroll in January.

He becomes the 18th member in Michigan State's 2024 high school recruiting class.

He joins defensive end Kekai Burnett, wide receivers Nick Marsh and Austin Clay, quarterback Alessio Milivojevic, running backs Makhi Frazier and Brandon Tullis, tight end Wyatt Hook, defensive backs Andrew Brinson, Jaylen Thompson, Justin Denson Jr. and Keshawn Williams, linebacker Jadyn Walker, and offensive linemen Mercer Luniewski, Charlton Luniewski, Payton Stewart, Rustin Young and Rakeem Johnson.

Michigan State's 2024 high school recruiting class currently ranks 55th in the country.
