Michigan State has landed its quarterback. On Thursday, Oregon State transfer quarterback Aidan Chiles committed to the Spartans, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel. Chiles later took to social media to announce the news himself as well.

He joins former OSU head coach Jonathan Smith and offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Brian Lindgren, along with several other former coaches for the Beavers, in East Lansing.

Chiles took an official visit to MSU this past weekend after arriving on Saturday.

Chiles' commitment comes 10 days after he entered the transfer portal on Dec. 3 after one year in Corvallis. The Downey, California native was a four-star prospect in the 2023 recruiting cycle, ranked as a top-250 prospect, and a top-five dual-threat quarterback in the cycle. He originally committed to the Beavers in June of 2022, signed in December of that year and enrolled at Oregon State in January of 2023.

Out of high school, Chiles had additional scholarship offers from Oregon, California, Kansas State, Rutgers, Washington, Washington State, Florida Atlantic and others.

He also ranks as a four-star transfer player and as the 49th player overall in the transfer portal overall, according to Rivals.

As Oregon State's primary backup quarterback behind DJ Uiagalelei in 2023, Chiles completed 24-of-35 passes (68.6%) as a true freshman for 309 yards and four touchdowns with zero interceptions. He also had 79 rushing yards and three additional touchdowns on the ground across 17 carries (4.6 yards per carry).

Of course, after spending a year in the system at Oregon State, Chiles is already familiarized with the offensive system of Smith and Lindgren.

At the time of his commitment, Chiles is currently the only scholarship quarterback on Michigan State's expected roster for the 2024 season. The Spartans saw each of their three scholarship quarterbacks from the 2023 season — Noah Kim, Katin Houser and Sam Leavitt — all enter the transfer portal.

Meanwhile, 2024 signal-caller Henry Hasselback decommitted from the program shortly after Smith and company made their way to East Lansing. With that said, MSU is still recruiting the Xaverian Brothers High School star, and Hasselbeck is still interested. Lindgren visited Hasselbeck in the Boston area on Dec. 4, and sources recently told Spartans Illustrated that Lindgren was planning to make a return trip there with Smith this week, however, it is unclear if that trip will still take place. Hasselbeck is coming off of an official visit to UCLA and may be trending away from the Spartans.

With that said, Michigan State is also pursuing three other quarterbacks in the 2024 class: four-star prospect Tyler Cherry (Duke commit), who officially visited this past weekend, three-star prospect Alessio Milivojevic, who is officially visiting during the weekend of Dec. 15, and three-star signal-caller Daniel Kaelin (Nebraska commit), who is also expected to visit this coming weekend. It is quite possible MSU takes two high school quarterbacks in the 2024 cycle.

Walk-on quarterback Andrew Schorfhaar, who would be a redshirt senior in 2024, has not announced his plans yet, but could return to the roster next season as well.

Heading into the 2024 season, Chiles has the opportunity to immediately step into a starting role as a sophomore with the Spartans.

After just completing his freshman year at Oregon State, Chiles will have three years of eligibility remaining, with the option to redshirt and earn an additional year of eligibility still on the table if needed in the future as well.
