Michigan State and head coach Jonathan Smith have landed their fifth transfer portal addition of this cycle. Former Middle Tennessee State defensive end Quindarius Dunnigan has committed to the Spartans on Wednesday.

Dunnigan arrived at Middle Tennessee State as a two-star prospect, according to Rivals, from Chattanooga. The only FBS offer he held out of high school was from the Blue Raiders.

He arrived in Murfreesboro in 2019 and only played in one game in his first season. Dunnigan was redshirted that year.

In the shortened 2020 season, Dunnigan played in eight of Middle Tennessee State’s nine games. He finished the season with six total tackles.

Dunnigan did not play in the 2021 season due to injury. He followed that with a breakout campaign in 2022. Dunnigan had two starts and played in 12 of Middle Tennessee’s 13 games that season. He totaled 27 tackles, seven tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks and one pass defended, all career-highs in all those categories at the time. Dunnigan had a standout performance against Colorado State when he posted six tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks in a single game.

Dunnigan’s best season as a Blue Raider came in 2023. He started 11 games for Middle Tennessee State and played in all 12 games. Over the course of the season, he amassed 35 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, three sacks and eight passes defended, breaking his previous career-highs in all four categories. Dunnigan was named second-team All-CUSA for his performance throughout the season.

Dunnigan decided to enter his name into the transfer portal on Nov. 29 as a graduate transfer with two years of remaining eligibility. While in the portal, he received other offers from Arizona State, California, Georgia Tech, Liberty and Memphis in addition to his Michigan State offer.

He took a visit to Michigan State this past weekend to check out East Lansing.

He is the fifth transfer portal addition made by Smith and the staff since arriving in East Lansing. Dunnigan joins former Oregon State quarterback Aidan Chiles and tight end Jack Velling, former Purdue wide receiver TJ Sheffield and former Wisconsin linebacker Jordan Turner.
