Spartan Commit Watchlist:
Class of 2006: Morgan, Herzog and Dahlman Continue to Shine
Raymar Morgan: Netted 23 points and grabbed 7 boards as Canton McKinley (15-2) defeated Austintown Finch, 97-30, Tuesday night. The Bulldogs shot 62.5 percent and forced 31 turnovers Tuesday and beat Fitch team by 82 points in December. McKinley is ranked No. 13 in USA Today's latest Super 25 poll (Feb. 7).
Tom Herzog: Had 14 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks Tuesday night in Flint Powers' 79-56 win over Swartz Creek. Class B's top-ranked Powers faces off against Orchard Lake St. Mary's Friday night in non-league action.
Isaiah Dahlman: Scored 35 points on 15-of-18 shooting for the Braham Bombers (17-1) in a 117-46 win over Isle last Thursday (Feb. 2) Isaiah's brother, junior Noah Dahlman, racked up a triple-double with 24 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists. In addition, Noah sank 10-of-12 field goal attempts and grabbed 7 steals.
Class of 2007: Summers, Lucas and Allen
Durrell Summers:: Scored a game-high 24 in Redford Covenant's 69-42 win over Oak Park Academy Tuesday. Covenant continues to hold down the eighth spot in the AP Class D polls.
Kalin Lucas: Hit for 23 points in Tuesday's 63-54 win over Detroit Catholic Central to claim the Catholic League's Central Championship. Lucas hit for 24 points in a 44-41 win last Friday over Birmingham Brother Rice.
Chris Allen: Allen's team, Meadowcreek High (Lawrenceville, GA), is set on going further than it did last year, when the Mustangs went out in the first round of the state tournament.
It took the first step toward that goal by ousting Central Gwinnett 64-49 in Tuesday's Region 8-AAAAA boy's quarterfinals at Central Gwinnett High. Meadowcreek improved to 20-6, qualified for state and now can focus on making a deep postseason run.
"It's huge," Meadowcreek coach Billy Davis said. "That's all the kids talked about from day one."
Allen led all scorers with 28 points.
The game was much closer than last Friday, when Meadowcreek blew out Central by more than 30 in a 85-50 win.
It was 7-7 when the Mustangs went on a 14-1 run capped by Allen's feathery jumper. Meadowcreek led 32-17 at the break and kept the lead in double digits for the remainder of the game. When Allen jammed one-handed on the breakaway and followed that with a floater, it was 41-23. Allen finished with 18 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists and eight steals.
Meadowcreek will play the Parkview v. Brookwood winner in Friday's semifinals (Atlanta Journal-Constitution, 1/8/06).

SpartanMag.com Super 12 (Last Week): The 12 best prep teams in Michigan regardless of class.
1 (3). Detroit Pershing (A) – Mr. Basketball favorite and future Michigan Wolverine DeShawn Sims continues to shine for the Doughboys.
2 (1). Saginaw (A) – junior PF Josh Southern scored 22 points and grabbed 12 boards in last Friday's 72-67 loss to Saginaw Arthur Hill.
3 (4). Flint Powers (B) – Michigan State bound center Tom Herzog and junior SG Laval Lucas-Perry lead the top team in Class B. The Chargers travel to Orchard Lake St. Mary's Friday to play Kalin Lucas and the Eaglets.
4 (2). Holt (A) – Bruce Larner's Rams nabbed a huge win over league rival Okemos two weeks ago to help vault themselves into the top spot in Class A this week. Their 70-67 double-overtime loss Tuesday night to another conference rival, Lansing Everett, shows why the Capital Area Activities Conference Division I may be the state's toughest division.
5 (6). Grand Rapids South Christian (B) – West Michigan's top squad is led by westside Mr. Basketball favorite, and Western Michigan bound, David Kool. The Sailors blew out Class C's No. 5 team, Grandville Calvin Christian, 68-45, Tuesday.
6 (7). Okemos (A) – First loss came to defending A champ Holt back on Jan. 27. Currently tied with the Rams for the CAAC Div. I lead after Holt's loss Tuesday night and their 64-56 win over Lansing Sexton. The Chieftains could become the fourth Capital Area Conference team to win the Class A title since 2000 (Lansing Waverly 2000, Lansing Everett 2004, Holt 2005).
7 (10). Detroit Redford (A) – Junior PG Corperrayle Harris scored 16 of his 25 points in the first half in a 75-61 win over Detroit Central Tuesday. Harris tallied 18 points and 8 boards in a 78-59 win over Det. Mumford last Friday.
8 (11). Flint Southwestern (B) – Super sophomore Anthony Crater could be the top Michigan player in the 2008 class. He hit for 11 points and 10 assists in last Friday's 93-43 blowout of Bay City Western.
9. (9) Detroit Renaissance (B) – Tuesday night's loss to Det. King knocked the PSL West Division winners out of the PSL Championship hunt.
10 (U). Belleville (A) – Leon Freeman and the Tigers are gaining momentum in Class A. Wins over Romulus and Detroit Community in the last 10 days are a big factor in their rise.
11 (8). Detroit Country Day (B) – Alex Legion will shoulder the load for the Yellowjackets now that PF Omar Thomas has been dismissed from the team for the remainder of the season.
12. (U) Detroit Community (C) – 6-5 junior Chase Simon leads the state's biggest little school. Eight wins over Class A schools, three close losses to Class A's and a 55-52 upset of Country Day last Friday night are good enough for our rankings.

6. (7) Larry Wright – SG, Saginaw – Wright, along with Freeman and Ramar Smith, remains among the top 2006 Michigan players yet to find a college home. Wright hit for 20 points in the Trojans loss to Saginaw Arthur Hill.
