Michigan State was looking to get the sweep over Rutgers Saturday afternoon at Madison Square Garden when the teams met as part of the Big Ten Super Saturday event in New York City. A lackluster offensive performance compounded by turnovers instead sent the Spartans flying home from Newark after a 61-55 defeat.

Following the loss, MSU head coach Tom Izzo spoke at length with media about his team and the opportunity to participate in the special event.
