Purdue transfer wide receiver TJ Sheffield picks Michigan State

Michigan State has been hot on the trail since new head coach Jonathan Smith took over, and the momentum kept going today, with Purdue transfer wide receiver TJ Sheffield committing to the Spartans.

Sheffield took an official visit to East Lansing this past weekend.

Sheffield has been a great playmaker for the Boilermakers since arriving on campus prior to the 2019 season. In 2023, Sheffield played in 11 games and had 32 catches, 381 yards and two touchdowns. He recorded 633 offensive snaps, according to Pro Football Focus.

The 2022 season was Sheffield's most productive season, He recorded 46 receptions for 480 yards and four touchdowns, although he set a single-season career-high in 2021 with five touchdowns during that campaign.

Over the course of his career, he has played in 46 games, making 118 catches for 1,209 yards (10.2 yards per catch) and 11 touchdowns. He has also shown some prowess in the return game, returning more than 60 kickoffs and punts in his time at Purdue.

Sheffield was named an Academic All-Big Ten selection in 2020.

He will have one final year of eligibility left in 2024.

He was rated as a three-star prospect in the class of 2019 coming out of Thompson's Station, Tennessee at Independence High School. During his senior year, he was a finalist for the Tennessee Titans' Mr. Football Award, and he had nearly 20 scholarship offers.

According to MaxPreps, he had 75 receptions, 1,550 yards and 15 touchdowns as a senior. He also carried the ball 26 times for 130 yards and four touchdowns.
