Michigan State men’s ice hockey defeated Wisconsin by a final score of 6-2 on Friday night.
The Spartans opened the scoring midway through the first period when Nicolas Müller dashed in front of the net and slid it past Wisconsin goaltender Kyle McClellan. Zach Dubinsky scored several minutes later after deflecting the puck on a shot from Matt Basgall.
MSU went up 3-0 when David Gucciardi shoved a snipe past McClellan to cap off scoring for the first period.
The second period was filled with four goals, two for each team.
Tyson Jugnauth gave Wisconsin a power-play goal, finally, to bring Wisconsin within two. MSU answered shortly after Viktor Hurtig scored his first collegiate goal. Moments later, MSU goalie Dylan St. Cyr misplayed the puck behind his net. Zach Urdahl intercepted the puck and fired it into an open net, once again, bringing Wisconsin back within two goals.
Jeremy Davidson scored again moments later after a quick transition up the ice. After that fifth goal, McClellan was pulled in favor of regular starter Jared Moe, who only allowed one goal the rest of the game, which included a 5-on-3 penalty kill for Wisconsin moments after he arrived.
Jagger Joshua scored the lone third period goal, his 12th of the season. Michigan State picked up the 6-2 victory in its quest for a sweep.
MSU will face Wisconsin on Saturday at 8 p.m. Eastern Time on B1G+. A preview of the matchup can be read here.
