There was a pleasant surprise on game day for Michigan State fans as 2024 three-star linebacker/athlete Jadyn Walker flipped his committed from Toledo to MSU on Saturday.
Walker is on an unofficial visit today and just recently received a scholarship offer from defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Scottie Hazelton. He committed while on the visit.
While he was committed to the Rockets and has great expect respect for the Toledo program, Walker was hoping the Michigan State offer would come through. And when it did, he knew he was home.
"Basically, I was just waiting for the (Michigan State) offer to come in, and then whenever it came in, I knew I had to make my decision," Walker told Spartans Illustrated. "I feel great. My decision was great. I feel like I'm wanted here. Go Green!"
In addition to Toledo and Michigan State, Walker has scholarship offers from Arizona State and Eastern Kentucky. He also has interest from Illinois.
Walker is an in-state prospect who currently plays for Portage Northern High School. He is teammates with 2026 offensive lineman Gregory Patrick, who is a big time priority for Michigan State as well.
Walker also plays wide receiver for the Huskies.
While Walker is currently not ranked, a big senior campaign could change that by November.
Portage Northern head coach Kurt Twichell mentioned that Walker has added 25 pounds of good weight over the past year, and could still add more before reaching the college level. In fact, Twichell thinks that Walker's profile is similar to that of MSU redshirt senior linebacker Jacoby Windmon.
Twichell also mentioned that Michigan State was always the school that Walker wanted to attend.
With Walker joining the group, Michigan State’s 2024 class now includes 13 verbal commitments. While he is listed as an "athlete," he is the first linebacker commit for MSU in the class.
The class also has commitments four-star running back Anthony Carrie, four-star wide receiver Nick Marsh, four-star defensive back Jaylen Thompson, three-star athlete/defensive back Justin Denson, three-star quarterback Henry Hasselbeck, three-star defensive back Syair Torrence, three-star offensive lineman Andrew Dennis, three-star offensive lineman Logan Bennett, three-star offensive lineman Mercer Luniewski, three-star offensive lineman Charlton Luniewski, three-star defensive back Reggie Powers III and three-star cornerback Camren Campbell.
