Michigan State is adding to its 2024 roster as in-state linebacker/defensive lineman Chris Piwowarczyk announced his commitment to the Spartans as a preferred walk-on on Saturday.

The 6-foot-2, 225-pound Piwowarczyk is a Michigan State legacy player. Both of his parents attended Michigan State.

His father, also named Chris, played for the Spartans in the late 1980s and early 1990s, while his mother, Carolyn, is a Michigan State alumna as well.

For Piwowarczyk, being able to put on a Michigan State uniform has been a lifelong dream of his, and he will now be able to do that.

"I've been a Spartan fan my whole life," Piwowarczyk told Spartans Illustrated. "My father played there from 1987 through 1991, winning two Big Ten titles and a Rose Bowl. My mother also went there from 1986 through 1991. It's always been a dream and goal of mine to wear the Green and White!"

The Fenton High School (Michigan) standout had offers from San Bernardino Valley College, Siena Heights and Calvin College.

As a senior, Piwowarczyk earned Blue-Grey All-American honors, was a first-team Division 3 All-State selection by the Detroit Free Press and earned first-team All-Conference honors in the Flint Metro League.

Piwowarczyk feels he projects best as a linebacker at the college level, and believes he can play outside or inside at MSU. He can also play on the defensive line and rush the passer from the edge. He is willing to play anywhere or do whatever it takes to help his team.

"I feel like I'm best suited for the defensive side of the ball, especially linebacker," Piwowarczyk said. "But I want to play anywhere that I can help the team."

Piwowarczyk joins fellow 2024 preferred walk-ons DJ Kennard (defensive back) and Carter Enyard (linebacker). He adds to a group of 2024 linebackers that includes three-star signee Brady Pretzlaff and unsigned three-star commit Jadyn Walker. Kennard and Pretzlaff enrolled at Michigan State earlier this month.

In addition to football, Piwowarczyk plays basketball and runs track.
