One of the in-state prospects that already has several scholarships offers on the table is Zeeland East's Jonathan Berghorst. The 6-foot-3, 255-pound prospect has got the attention of plenty of Big Ten teams including MSU and U-M.

Berghorst stars at defensive end for Zeeland East and he has already picked up Division I scholarships offers from Illinois, Central Michigan, Western Michigan and Toledo. Rivals.com currently ranks him as a three-star recruit for the class of 2017.

Many recruits will spend February and March visiting colleges for junior day functions and Berghorst he has a busy schedule planned.

“I will be at Iowa State Saturday,” he said. “Other than that I'm not sure but I've been in contact withinformed me many schools and will have a lot of visits coming up. I've taken many visits to both Michigan State and Michigan, I hear very often from both. I will be visiting both schools again this spring.”

There is a good chance that Iowa State could extend Berghorst a scholarship offer as the coaching staff there was at Toledo this past fall. Berghorst will be attending The Rivals Camp Series later this spring. At that event, he will be testing his skills set against many of the top prospect in the Midwest. A strong performance there would certainly improve his recruiting stock and lead to more scholarship offers.

A scholarship offer from the Spartans or Wolverines would definitely be a game changer for Berghorst when it comes to his recruitment. With that being said, he already has a good idea of what he is looking for in a school.

“School is very important,” he said. “I'd say all the schools, I am looking at have good academics. I want to be a strength and conditioning coach so I looking a lot at that part of the program. How they train and what the strength coaches are like. Then for football, it will be how they practice and game prep and also my relationships with coaches.”

Berghorst said his primary recruiter from MSU is Mark Staten and for U-M, it is Greg Mattison. In both cases, he is developing good rapport with experience coaches who have a strong track record of success.
