With 43 seconds remaining and his team up by two points in a massive Big Ten game, Michigan State’s Tre Holloman committed a costly turnover.

It was one of those turnovers that leaves everyone scratching their head and wondering what he was thinking.

Little did Holloman know at the time that he would hit the biggest shot of his life 43 seconds later.

Maryland had a chance to win the game with the final possession, but Ja’Kobi Gillespie hit the front iron on a deep 3-pointer. The ball was rebounded by Michigan State’s Jaxon Kohler and quickly dumped off to Holloman, who took a dribble and heaved it from well past half-court ... and it went in.

“It’s just a great feeling,” Holloman said about his half-court buzzer beater to win the game 58-55. “I feel great. That’s all I can say that I ... feel great.”

It would’ve been very easy for Holloman to get in his own head after that turnover which allowed the Terrapins to tie the game. That turnover could have cost the Spartans a win, but, instead, he stuck to one of the keys coming into the game.

“One of our keys was staying poised,” he said. “I didn’t get too down and we had time. And the shot just went in.”

Some might think Holloman’s half-court heave was all luck. However, Michigan State practices from that range prior to each game and Holloman says he has been feeling it from beyond the half-court line.

Holloman hit his one half-court shot before the Michigan game and his one half-court shot before this game against Maryland.

“We practice those,” Holloman said. “Once it left my hand and then I see it going, I was like 'Oh yeah, that’s good.’ And then it dropped and I was like ‘Oh God, let’s go.’”

Overall, Holloman did not have a great shooting night, but in a defensive stalemate, nobody really did. It was a rock fight, defensive, slow-paced Big Ten clash between two of the top teams in the conference.

“I don’t think anybody played good today, but he had a tough one,” Jase Richardson, who scored 15 points, said about Holloman. “For him to have that shot go down and him have that moment, it kind of picks him up and brings all of his confidence back.”

There won’t be many people that will remember that Holloman scored nine points on just 3-for-12 shooting. They will remember the buzzer beater that will live in Michigan State basketball lore for a long time.

“That’s a moment that’s going to go down in history forever,” Jaden Akins said.
