EAST LANSING - Michigan State’s big Notre Dame recruiting day is off to a strong start, with four-star 2019 quarterback Dwan Mathis’ commitment to the Spartans. He committed midway through today’s visit.
Mathis is a strong-armed, smooth-operating dual-threat quarterback for Oak Park (Mich.) High School. He committed to Iowa State last winter, and then reopened his recruitment and received a scholarship offer from Michigan State in July.
His recruitment seemed to lean heavily toward Michigan State for several weeks, with Mathis having a long relationship with Spartan quarterbacks coach Brad Salem, dating back to Mathis’ freshman year in high school.
Mathis is Michigan State’s second commitment for the 2020 recruiting class, joining fellow in-state four-star prospect, Spencer Brown, an offensive tackle from Walled Lake Western.
SpartanMag.com will have more on this commitment, and coverage of the recruiting weekend, soon. Michigan State is playing host to at least 12 four-star recruits for tonight’s game against Notre Dame.
Mathis announced his commitment with a Tweet at 7:15 p.m. SpartanMag's Rico Beard confirmed with Mathis' father that the Tweet is indeed a commitment to Michigan State.
