Spartans looking at Holland DT for 2013
Defensive tackle recruiting is always a priority and Michigan State is already evaluating several prospects in the class of 2013 as potential scholarship players. One recruit that has already been on campus this fall is Bobby Drew from Holland High School. SpartanMag.com has some details on his recruitment.

Drew was on campus last weekend when the Spartans rolled over Central Michigan University. He asked him about his time in East Lansing and his thoughts of Michigan State?
"Michigan State is the first campus I have visited and it was beautiful," he said. "I had a great first experience and the football pride they have at the school is great. The team is looking great and I hope to learn more about the Michigan State football program in the future."
What is your current height and weight and what schools are you currently hearing from?
"I am 6-foot-4, 282-pounds," Drew said. "I am hearing form Michigan State, Michigan, Mississippi State, Ball State UCLA and I get mail from about 7 more."
What have college coaches said they like about you as a player and have they talked about the position they see you playing at the next level?
"I have been told they like my size and speed. Schools like me as a defensive tackle."
Drew is having a solid season so far for Holland High School. He will be sending his junior highlight video to the Michigan State coaches later this fall. He hopes his film will help him get closer to earning a scholarship offer from the Spartans.
Holland High School is having a good sesson. The Dutch only need one more win to qualify for the playoffs. We asked Drew about the team.
"We started 4-0 and then lost a tough one to Kenowa Hills (56-50 2OT), but now we are back on track coming off a win against Reeths-Puffer making us 5-1. We have some experienced seniors in defensive ends ... Ben Welmers and Scott Tacket to help me get better. I also start as an offensive tackle."
In addition to football, Drew also participates in basketball and track. He was named All-Conference in track as a sophomore for his performance in the shot and discus.
Drew is looking for big improvements in both track events this spring. It would not be a surprise if he is throwing the shot close to 50-feet and the discus close to 150-feet by the time states roll around.
SpartanMag.com will continue to follow the recruiting progress of Drew over the coming months. Holland High School is starting to make some serious noise under the direction of head coach Shawn McManus. The Michigan State staff will certainly be keeping tabs on Drew as well as other potential recruits from there.
NOTE:
The Spartans are also taking a look at Holland linebacker Nathan Ricketts for the 2012 class. Unfortunately for Ricketts, scholarship space is very limited for his class and it may simply be a matter of not having enough room for the talented prospect. Ricketts currently has offers from Central Michigan, Western Michigan and Toledo. Illinois is also in the picture for him.
