Will Hancock be a Spartan

When Coach Dantonio was hired SpartanMag.com indicated that the state of Michigan had several talented prospects still available that he would likely recruit. One player we mentioned was Kaunda Hancock of Birmingham Brother Rice. Hancock is one of the top un-committed prospects in the state and is in the process of narrowing down his choices.
We spoke with Hancock and he gave us the latest news on the teams he is hearing from.

"I have already taken visits to Eastern Michigan and Toledo and I have visits set up with Michigan State and Indiana. I will be visiting Michigan State on the 12th of January and will go to Indiana the next weekend," he said.
Hancock is listed as a 3-star prospect and the #76 wide receiver prospect in the nation by Rivals.com.
Those that have seen him play know that Hancock is equally as impressive as a defensive back as he is a wide receiver. Hancock had an incredible game in the 2005 state championship for Brother Rice. He intercepted a record 3 passes, including a dynamic one handed interception in the end zone.
This fall Hancock had a game saving interception against Orchard Lake Saint Mary's and was responsible for shutting down wide receiver Taurian Washington who is headed to Ohio State.
His multiple position ability has teams looking at him on both sides of the ball.
"Toledo wants me as a wide receiver," he said. "Eastern Michigan said they want me for either. Indiana and Michigan State have said they like me as a safety. So if I play in the Big Ten I will play defense."
Have the Spartans and Hoosiers talked about a scholarship offer?
"Yes they have. Indiana offered me the week before Christmas. Michigan State has not offered me yet. I am supposed to talk with Coach Dantonio about that when I am on my visit."
Hancock is very familiar with Michigan State University. His former teammates, Charlie Gantt and Adam Decker both play for the Spartans, and legendary Brother Rice Coach Al Fracassa is a State grad.
Would it be safe to say that if Michigan State offers they will be tough to beat?
"Yes, you can definitely say that. If they offer me, that is where I will go."
This past fall Hancock received a lot of accolades for his play. He was named 1st Team All-North, 1st Team All-Metro, 1st Team All-Catholic, 1st Team All-County and 1st Team All-State. He finished the season with 32 receptions for 636-yards (19.88 average) and six touchdowns. On defense he had 65 tackles and 3 interceptions.
Rivals.com recently uploaded Hancock's senior highlight tape into the database. You can see him in action this fall for the warriors by clicking the link below.
Getting players from Brother Rice High school is always a good move. Not only can you be rest assured that they are well coached, but the school has multiple top prospects every year. In fact, Brother Rice has sent at least two players to Division 1 the past 3 years running. Don't be surprised if they have another top prospect for the class of 2008.
SpartanMag.com will be speaking with Hancock immediately following his visit to provide the latest details.
