Vance picks MSU over Michigan, OSU

Momentum toward securing one of its most noteworthy recruiting classes in program history continued for Michigan State on Wednesday when Detroit Cass Tech safety Demetric Vance committed to the Spartans.
Vance committed to Michigan State over Michigan and Ohio State. He had hats representing each of those three schools on a table before choosing the green one.

"I want to thank my coaches for pushing through thick and thin and the bad and good and my teammates for pushing me and I'd like to thank all the coaches that recruited me and took the time to look at me as an athlete and as a student but I will be attending Michigan State," Vance said as he put on the Spartan baseball hat.
Shortly after the press conference, Vance sent out this Tweet:
Extremely Blessed To Announce that I have Committed to Michigan State University !!! #GoGreen 💚 #SpartanNation #V4MSU #DreamTeam2016 ✳️⚪️- ⚡️VANCE⚡️ (@Demetricvancejr) May 13, 2015
Vance said he knew Michigan State was going to be his choice after he and his parents visited campus in April. He credited MSU assistants Terry Samuel and Harlon Barnett with playing a role in his commitment as well as his relationship with Curtis Blackwell, MSU's director of college advancement. Vance said his relationship with Blackwell goes back to his middle school days, prior to Blackwell joining MSU. Vance said Blackwell was integral in motivating Vance to set goals that culminated with this year's scholarship offers and today's verbal commitment.
Michigan State's class was ranked No. 14 in the Rivals.com team rankings prior to Vance's announcement.
Vance had offers from Michigan, Ohio State, Nebraska, Iowa, Penn State, Tennessee and Wisconsin, among others.
Vance's commitment is the first MSU has received from an in-state prospect, with the possibility of gaining a pledge from the state's top-ranked uncommitted player - Detroit King WR Donnie Corley - possible in the near future.
He is ranked the No. 13 player in the state of Michigan by Rivals.com, but could move up those rankings after the 2015 season. Vance is one of only two defensive backs in the state of Michigan to earn a scholarship offer from the Spartans, the other being Penn State commitment Lavert Hill. MSU offered Hill a scholarship earlier this month, several weeks after his commitment to PSU. Vance said on Wednesday that he plans to help Michigan State recruit Hill, in addition to Corley and other Detroiters on MSU's recruiting radar.
SpartanMag.com will have more on this commitment later today.
