SpartanMag.com Camp: HOT LIST

SpartanMag.com looks at the players that had strong performances on Sunday at the Michigan State Camp. Several players were looking to earn a Spartan scholarship and they definitely helped themselves, including linebacker Nick Conner of Dublin Scioto High School in Ohio. Players are listed in alphabetical order.
DE Justice Alexander of Nardonia High School in Macedonia, Ohio

The 6-foot-5,235-pound Alexander is one of those players that passes the eye test with flying colors. He is still raw and for every exceptional rep their was one that was not quite up to par. However, if he becomes more consistent and fills out you could have a 6-foot-5, 270-pound player with unlimited potential. Alexander will be a player many BCS teams follow this fall.
UPDATE: MSU offered Alexander on June 3.

DB Nick Coleman of Archbishop Alter High School in Kettering, Ohio
Coleman had a very solid day. He may not do any one particular thing great, but he does a lot of things very well. With his combination of size and ability, you can see why he has a quality list of offers. Michigan State will be making a decision about a scholarship in the coming weeks. The staff may wait until after June 14th to make the call on any defensive back offers. In a tight race, the testing portion of camp could be what ends up being the deciding factor.

LB Nick Conner of Dublin Scioto High School in Ohio
Conner came up looking to grab a Spartan offer and he did not hurt his chances. Did he do enough? I expect Mark Dantonio will answer that question in next 2 weeks. MSU worked Conner out as a LB as well as a stand-up rusher ala Ed Davis. At a legit 6-foot-2, 225-pounds Conner has excellent size and has the speed to cover players out of the backfield.
UPDATE: MSU offered Conner on June 2.

LB Chris Green of Central Catholic High School in Toledo, Ohio
Green has an impressive list of offers (PSU, BC, GT, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, WVa) and had a strong day. What we liked was his leadership and communication skills during the 7v7 portion. Green also showed very good lateral movement in the drill portion. Green may be ineligible to play this fall due to his birthday occurring prior to the deadline.
DB John Kelly of Oak Park High School in Michigan
Kelly was very impressive today, especially in the drill portion. He has excellent hands and you can see that he has outstanding ball skills. We still did not get a chance to see Kelly run a 40-yard dash or chase someone down. He is not the biggest player and I would think 5-foot-9, 180-pounds would be accurate. I was reminded some of Jaren Hayes from build and initial burst standpoint.
DT Jamal Milan of Al Raby High School in Chicago, Illinois
Milan had an great camp and you could see that Defensive Line Ron Burton was very impressed with his ability. Michigan State was a force recruiting in Illinois last year and would certainly like to keep that going. It is not a great year for Illinois talent, but Milan should see his stock continue to rise. If the Spartans offer they should be difficult to beat.

WR Tre Tipton of Apollo Ridge High School in Pennsylvania
Very strong day for Tipton. He came in looking to impress and he did just that. Tipton tested well, posting a 10' plus broad jump. He also excelled in position drills and 7v7. Tipton was smooth in and out of breaks and had the speed to stretch the field. He has good size at around 6-feet-0, but what was really intriguing was the fact that his dad is a legit 6-foot-5. If Tipton grows a few more inches you could be looking at a player with a huge upside.

UPDATE: Tipton committed to Toledo on Monday morning. Look for Michigan State and Pittsburgh to keep an eye on him this fall.
UPDATE II: MSU offered Tipton on June 3.
DB Justin Tranquill of Carroll High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana
I really liked what I saw today from Tranquill. He is an outstanding all-around athlete and has some solid instincts back in secondary. Many of his interceptions were due to him reading QB and breaking off his man to attack the ball. Tranquill is not a thick as Kelly, but he definitely showed that he has skill set to play defensive back at a high-level.

DT James Trucilla of Erie Cathedral Prep High School in Pennsylvania
All Trucilla did was beat every offensive linemen that was put in front of him. He is a smaller DT at around 6-foot-1, 265 pounds, but he is powerful and relentless. He had a better day than Mark Scarpinato did a few years ago, but Michigan State is in a different situation now. Trucilla may not make it to Big Ten, but he is an All- MAC DT waiting to happen.
LB Ethan Tucky of Ohio
Tucky is a 2016 prospect that will likely be one of the top recruits in Ohio for the class of 2016. Tucky still has to add some more size, but he is still only 16 years old. Linebacker recruiting should not be difficult with the defensive reputation Michigan State has developed. Look for Tucky to be a player the staff invites to campus numerous times over the coming months.
