Mel Tucker landed his first recruiting victory as head coach of the Spartans. Long time Michigan State commit Jordon Simmons signed his letter of intent, making it official.

Now that he is signed Simmons told me he can't wait to get work with all of his teammates.

Simmons committed to Michigan State in October. The electric playmaker from Georgia chose to hold off on signing in December, to allow his whole family to check out East Lansing first.

Simmons was ready to sign and make it official on the first day of the February signing period.

Then in shocking news, head coach Mark Dantonio announced that he was going to retire in the eve of signing day. That caused Simmons to pause on signing to see who Michigan State hired.

He needed to make sure the new coach was the right man for him. The Simmons family was very patient and observant with the coaching search.

When news broke that Mel Tucker was going to be named the coach the Simmons family huddled up and discussed the next move.

Tucker was the defensive coordinator at Georgia for 3 years. While he was there Simmons brother was on the roster, so the family already knew the kind of person and coach Tucker is.

Simmons loves Michigan State and everything the program has to offer him, but hiring a coach he already knows was reassuring.

Securing the commitment of Simmons is huge for Michigan State. Simmons brings game changing speed and has the ability to take it the distance at any moment.
