Radar '22: Spartans eager to recruit Georgia

When fans think of high school football, a few states come to mind such as Texas, Florida, Alabama, even Ohio in recent years but the state of Georgia is always one of the best at producing talent year in and year out.

That brings college coaches from around the country into the peach state to try and poach some recruits and that is exactly what coach Mel Tucker and staff are hoping to do.

The Spartans already have a commitment from Georgia in the 2022 class in Kristian Phillips and are looking for more with several other offers including one to Jake Pope.

The 6-foot-1, 180 pound "ATH" that excels at both safety and receiver is a high priority a number of schools across the country including the Spartans.

"I definitely like Michigan State a lot," says Pope. "I had a facetime call with them about a month ago and it went really well."

The two lead recruiters for Pope at Michigan State are coach Cole Brown and coach Mike Tressel.

"I talk to both coach Brown, and coach Tressel the most there and they both tell me they love my knowledge for the game as well as my field awareness and a combination of my physicality and speed."

Pope has noticed Michigan State trying to creep into Georgia and especially at his high school, (Buford).

"I know they already have one commit from Georgia, and they've offered two of my teammates Malik Spencer, and Aubrey Smith. It's really cool seeing a school like that come down here and definitely makes you think they might be building something special up there."

Pope is considered a 3-star "ATH" with a 5.7 Rivals grade which puts him as the 37th ranked player in Georgia and 30th ranked "ATH" in the class of 2022.

Other suitors for Pope include, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Iowa.
