The past few years it has been pretty easy to figure out which quarterback Michigan State was going to focus on. In 2003 it was Cleveland standout Brian Hoyer. In 2004 it was Jersey gunslinger Domenic Natale. In 2005, things are a little less clear. However, SpartanMag.com has learned from CardinalSports.com that top Kentucky quarterback Brian Anderson recently camped at Michigan State.
Anderson has seen his stock rise this spring after strong showings at camps and 7-on-7's. In fact, many believe that Anderson has moved ahead of fellow Kentucky quarterback Justin Burke as the top signal-calling prospect in the Bluegrass State.
Anderson plays for Kentucky powerhouse Louisville Male High School. He recently made a tour of Midwestern schools with fellow Spartan target Aundre Henderson. The two stopped into Michigan State, Michigan, Notre Dame and Purdue.
Anderson also camped at Illinois the week before. Despite the Illini already having a commitment from quarterback Isaiah Williams and hot on the heels of Demetrius Jones, they still offered him a scholarship. In addition, the Marshall Thundering Heard have also extended Anderson a scholarship offer.
Upon returning from East Lansing, Anderson had the following to say about the Spartans, "I really like the coaches at Michigan State and the style of offense they play."
The fact that Anderson feels comfortable with the Spartan staff should not be a surprise. Louisville Males' Head Coach is Hall of Fame Coach Bobby Redman. His son happens to be Louisville legend and NFL quarterback Chris Redman. Redman thrived running Coach Smith's offensive scheme at Louisville back in 1998 and 1999.
The Spartan staff is still in the evaluation phase with the quarterback position. Several other high-level quarterback prospects will be stopping into Michigan State during the July Camp. Anderson though could easily emerge as one of the quarterbacks the Spartans focus on in the coming weeks.
