With a strong performance at the Elite 11 and NIKE Camps, Michigan State quarterback commitment Andrew Maxwell moved into the Rivals.com top 250. Maxwell became the sixth 4th star recruit for the class of 2009 and Head Coach Mark Dantonio has the Spartans off to a great start. See the entire list as well as some other notes.
Maxwell was one of only 25 recruits in the nation that went from being outside the Rivals 250 to solidly on the list at #229. His inclusion on the Rivals 250 also bumped him up to a 4-star recruit.
While Maxwell moved onto the Rivals 250, running back Larry Caper of Battle Creek Central High School and wide receiver Donald Spencer of Ypsilanti High School slipped off the list. Both Caper and Spencer are still among a small group of prospects that are 4-star recruits, but not top 250. When SpartanMag.com asked Rivals.com national analysts about the move they cited the fact that other players had improved their stock this spring.

They noted that Caper and Spencer had not done anything to not warrant the 4-star rankings, but without attending any camps or combines they had to recognize players who excelled at those events.
Caper and Spencer will surely be at a session of Michigan State's camp and that could help their stock. The biggest thing either prospect can do is go out and have a strong senior year. Camps and combines are only part of the equation. When the pads are on is when it really counts and both Caper and Spencer should excel come this fall.
The newest Spartan, Patrick White, reportedly also got serious 4-star consideration, but with the WR position being so deep this year, he was just on the outside. Look for White to be a 5.7 rated 3-star recruit. It is possible that White will change from a wide receiver to Athlete designation in the next rankings. White will also have plenty of opportunities to show he belongs higher this fall for Pickerington Central High School.
