Offensive tackle Kodi Kieler of Carlson High School confirmed to SpartanMag.com that he has committed to Michigan State. The 6-foot-6, 305-pound prospect selected the Spartans after being offered earlier today.
Kieler was in East Lansing yesterday meeting with the coaching staff and watching the first full practice . He told SpartanMag.com last night that Coach Dantonio indicated that he would be watching his film and getting back with him in the near future.
Kieler called up to East Lansing today and got the good news.
"I called up there and they told me I had a scholarship," Kieler said. "I called back later and spoke with Coach Warner. I told him I am committing to Michigan State. I am supposed to call back later so I can speak with Coach Dantonio."
What was it about Michigan State that made it the right choice?
"Michigan State is a great program," Kieler said. "They have been having a lot of success as of late and I want to be a part of that. It is also close to home and that way all my family and friends will be able to see me play. My family is excited I am going there."
Kieler selected the Spartans over the Purdue and Minnesota. While he liked both of those programs, the fact that the Spartans are competing for Big Ten Championships was a big selling point for Kieler.
Kieler becomes the 14th member of the Michigan State class of 2012. He also fills an important need at the offensive tackle spot.
