Schroeder looks to make early decision

Left-handed and blessed with good grades, there's no question Sean Schroeder attracts attention on the recruiting trail. The poised 6-foot-3, 190-pound quarterback from Dana Point High School in California is still looking for that first scholarship offer, but there should be no doubt that it should be coming soon. A quartet of programs from both the East and West Coasts are looking hard at Schroeder - including Oregon State, which just hosted him on campus for their half-day camp on Friday.

"I have no offers as of yet, but I've been hearing from schools across the country," Schroeder said. "A lot of schools came by the school during the evaluation period and I think people were impressed with what they saw. Schools like Oregon State, San Diego State, Duke, and Stanford - those are the four main ones right now."

Schroeder is currrently in the midst of several camps and combines in which he's trying to show that he is worthy of a D-I FCS offer. In May he attended the Elite 11 Camp at Cal and the Nike Camp at Stanford, and this past weekend he camped at both Oregon State and UCLA. During his time in Corvallis, he really enjoyed himself.

"I went up to Oregon State this past Friday and I loved my visit there," Schroeder said. "I really enjoyed the campus. The facilities are top-notch and I really liked the new weight room. I've known Coach (Danny) Langsdorf] and Coach (Reggie) Davis for some time and it was great to meet them, and I also go to meet Coach (Mike) Riley. I found them all to be great people."

Schroeder shared some of what Coach Riley had to say to him.

"He thought I did really well at the camp and that they'd be in touch," Schroeder said. "I'd love to have an offer from them."

Until he receives an offer, Schroeder remains wide open but he does have criteria for the right situation - something Oregon State appears to have for him.

"I'm looking for the academic part (of college) but I am also looking at how I would fit in overall with the school as a whole," Schroder said. "I have to feel a sense of confort and I felt that at Oregon State. I'm also looking at the coaching staff, and I felt pretty good about that with Oregon State too."

Schroeder has two more camps on his summer schedule at San Diego State and Stanford before he'll shut it down to concentrate on the season ahead. In fact, there is part of him that hopes he can get a verbal commitment done by the end of the summer to hone in on his final year of prep football.

"Definitely if the right school came along and offered I'd make a commitment," Schroeder siad. "That way I could focus on the team and get the recruiting stuff out of the way."
