Category rankings: Quarterbacks

The Rivals.com recruiting experts have broken down countless hours of film and racked up plenty of frequent flyer miles to see the top prospects compete at events across the country to come up with the most extensive and accurate prospect rankings and evaluations you will find. In the process of evaluating overall talent, several prospects gained notice for their mastery of specific skills.

Which quarterback has the strongest arm? Which is the most accurate passer? Which is the best scrambler? We've selected the best of the best in each category for every position and rank the top five in each, beginning with the quarterbacks.

QB rankings: Strongest arm | Most accurate | Best scrambler

Strongest Arm
Jeremy Crabtree's take: When you think of strong-armed quarterbacks, you usually find the guys that are also big strong physical specimens, and that's what this group all brings to the table. Even with Gabbert at No. 1, I don't know if there's a dramatic drop off from the rest of the guys in the top five. All of them have hoses.

Mike Farrell's take: This is a big, strong group of quarterbacks with excellent size. These guys are all still growing into their bodies as well so they'll have even more zip as they mature. Guys like Manuel, Crist and Jefferson can all throw the ball through a brick wall, while Gabbert and Pryor throw excellent deep balls.

JC Shurburtt's take: One thing I've noticed about this group is that they all have size. In addition to having strong arms, they all have NFL size.

  • Vote: Who has the strongest arm?
  • 1. Blaine Gabbert, 6-4, 226, Ballwin (Mo.) Parkway West Gabbert highlights
    2. E.J. Manuel, 6-4, 201, Virginia Beach (Va.) Bayside Manuel highlights
    3. Dayne Crist, 6-5, 228, Sherman Oaks (Calif.) Notre Dame Crist highlights
    4. Terrelle Pryor, 6-6, 220, Jeannette (Pa.) Pryor highlights
    5. D.C. Jefferson, 6-6, 243, Winter Haven (Fla.) Jefferson highlights
More cannons: Beau Sweeney, Fresno (Calif.) Clovis West; Jim Youngblood, Camden (Ark.) Fairview; Jordan Jefferson, Destrehan (La.); Sean Renfree, Scottsdale (Ariz.) Notre Dame Prep; Mike Glennon, Centreville (Va.) Westfield; Tommy Dorman, North Richland Hills (Texas) Birdville; Tino Sunseri, Pittsburgh Central Catholic
    Most Accurate
Crabtree's take: I love quarterbacks that have the arm to win you games, but you also need somebody that's not going to make mistakes and throw interceptions. And that's one thing this group brings to the table plenty of accuracy. Luck, to me, without question has the most accurate arm. He showed it in camps and 7-on-7 tournaments, but he also completed 68 percent of his passes as a junior.

Farrell's take: Luck, Manuel and the rest all throw the ball with precision and lead their receivers well. They also have excellent touch.

Shurburtt's take: Every quarterback in this group throws a good, catchable ball. They all put the ball square on the money.

  • Vote: Who is the most accurate?
  • 1. Andrew Luck, 6-4, 215, Houston (Texas) Stratford Luck highlights
    2. E.J. Manuel, 6-4, 201, Virginia Beach (Va.) Bayside Manuel highlights
    3. Nick Crissman, 6-3, 193, Huntington Beach (Calif.) Edison Crissman highlights
    4. Dayne Crist, 6-5, 228, Sherman Oaks (Calif.) Notre Dame Crist highlights
    5. Mike Glennon, 6-6, 194, Centreville (Va.) Westfield Glennon highlights
More accurate passers: John Wienke, Tuscola (Ill.); Blaine Gabbert, Ballwin (Mo.) Parkway West; Ted Stachitas, Ponte Vedra Beach (Fla.) Nease; Sean Renfree, Scottsdale (Ariz.) Notre Dame Prep
    Best Scrambler
Crabtree's take: While all five of these guys are all very adept playmakers with their feet, I think what really also separates them from the rest is their ability to make good decisions once they are flushed from the pocket. You'll see guys like Pryor, Jackson and Scott all make big throws while on the run, too. And that's what I want from my dual-threat quarterback. He can't just be a runner only.

Farrell's take: Pryor brings a different level of athleticism to the quarterback position and each of these guys can wreak havoc outside the pocket.

Shurburtt's take: There is tremendous athletic talent in this group, led by the nation's top player Terrelle Pryor.

  • Vote: Who is the best scrambler?
  • 1. Terrelle Pryor, 6-6, 220, Jeannette (Pa.) Pryor highlights
    2. Star Jackson, 6-3, 182, Lake Worth (Fla.) Jackson highlights
    3. Matt Scott, 6-2, 200, Corona (Calif.) Centennial Scott highlights
    4. MarQueis Gray, 6-4, 204, Indianapolis (Ind.) Ben Davis Gray highlights
    5. Kyle Parker, 6-0, 185, Jacksonville (Fla.) Bartram Trail Parker highlights
More super scramblers: Dominick Britt, Trotwood (Ohio) Madison; Robert Griffin, Copperas Cove (Texas); Riley Dodge, Southlake (Texas) Carroll
