Video: 1-on-1 with NFL Spartans Gholston, Vickerson

Gholston is making the transition from life as a student athlete at Michigan State to the professional ranks. The fourth round draft pick believes the three years he spent in Mark Dantonio's program has prepared him many of the challenges he will face as a rookie in the NFL.
"The transition at first was a little difficult," said Gholston, who signed with the Spartans in the Class of 2010 as a senior at Detroit Southeastern High School. "The preparation I had at Michigan State helped me with the transition, to learn the plays, accept coaching and the different styles because we had different styles at Michigan State so I can adapt more to the different styles at Tampa Bay."
Gholston is one of three Spartan defensive linemen selected in the NFL draft during Dantonio's tenure at Michigan State along with Jerel Worthy and Ervin Baldwin. Former Dantonio era Spartan defensive linemen Oren Wilson (New York Giants) and Ogembdi Nwagbuo (Detroit Lions) have carved out NFL careers as undrafted free agents.
Vickerson played his senior season at Michigan State three years before Dantonio took over as head coach. The former Detroit Martin Luther King standout is entering his ninth season as an NFL defensive lineman.
The defensive tackle's professional career has included stops at Miami, Tennessee, and Denver where Vickerson has been a starter for three years.
Vickerson success in the NFL hasn't caused him to forget about where he came from which is why the former Spartan has been involved with the Sound Mind Sound Body program.
"Just giving back to the youth, trying to instill the things that they need to be successful in life," said Vickerson when asked why SMSB was important. "It starts with academics, being student athletes. Then giving them knowledge of the game with proper techniques to use with their schools and at
that their position."
