Shead talks unofficial visits

If most people in Texas were asked where the community of Cayuga was located, the result would likely be a lot of blank stares. Boasting a population of 760, it has not exactly been a hotbed for college recruiters over the years either. However, things are starting to change in the East Texas town.

Junior running back Traylon Shead has put the city on the map of recruiting fans across the state. After rushing for 2,810 yards as a sophomore, the 6-foot-2, 205-pound back is at it again this year. Though eight games, Cayuga sits at 7-1 with Shead being a big reason for their No. 11 state-ranking in the Associated Press poll.

"Mostly, I've just played in the first half of games," said Shead. "I think I'm like 40 yards away from 2,000 on the year."

It is that production that has opened the eye of schools all over. This past weekend, Shead took in his first college game when he tripped to Austin to watch the University of Texas play Missouri. In an odd turn of events, the rest of his family actually made the trip to College Station to watch Texas A&M play Texas Tech.
