New offer for Vol commit but same outlook

Quarterback Bryce Petty out of Midlothian, Texas was a little bit late to the recruiting scene heading into the summer. Though he has all of the tools you would want out of a signal-caller, his offers early in the process consisted solely of Portland State and New Mexico. After an impressive summer camp circuit things have changed quickly for the rising senior. Petty jumped quickly on a scholarship offer from Tennessee and now it looks like Tennessee may have been early to the party.

Recently, Petty picked up a new offer from Nebraska University and while he is flattered by the offer, he is all Volunteer.

"To me there's really not much to [the offer]," Petty said. "I committed to Tennessee and I think that's where I'm going to end up. I like that I got another offer and everything but to be honest I'm about 97 percent sure…actually I'm not even 97 percent, I'm all the way sure that I'm going to be going [to Tennessee]. I'm not a guy that's going to decommit and frustrate everybody."

It's not just new offers that could entice a less committed prospect. Petty had all the excuse in the world to explore other options after the nation's tenth-rated pro-style quarterback, Josh Nunes decided to be a Vol. However, rather than drive him away, Petty sounds more motivated than ever.

"The way I see it is that I'm going to be competing anywhere," he said. "There's always going to be another quarterback. To me, a guy like Nunes committing is going to push me to be the best quarterback every day. Some people think it's weird but that's the way I am."

As the summer moves on and the fall rapidly approaches, Petty has no more plans to camp or visit schools but instead he is working with his team to prepare for the 2008 season.

"We've got our summer workouts going and all that stuff," he said. "I'm done with camps and all that. That was all for recruiting so I could get to know them and they could get to know me and it would help me make my choice. I've made my choice now."

Expect Petty to make only one official visit in the fall and it won't be a surprise to where it will be.

"I'm pretty sure I'm only going to visit Tennessee. I don't want anyone to make any wrong conclusions."
