TE Charles in charge of recruiting future

Already a standout player at Riverview High School in Brandon, Fla., tight end Orson Charles is transitioning to Plant High School in Tampa. Adjusting to a new home with new teammates, Charles is happy to be catching balls from 4-star quarterback Aaron Murray.

"It's exciting," Charles said. "We are trying to get our routes down pat and work on the no huddle. We both want to know what the other is thinking so we can be on the same page."

Recruiting is starting to get pretty hectic for the 6-foot-3, 230-pound Charles, but he sees that as a good thing.

"It's an adjustment when you aren't used to it," Charles said. "I can't wait, and I'm excited. I guess you can say that I like the attention."

As a youngster in the Sunshine State, Charles looked south to find his favorite team.

"Growing up my favorite school was Miami," Charles said. "That doesn't mean I'll go there. I'm hearing that a lot of people are going to come see me in spring and probably offer me then."

One of those schools is Tennessee. Charles doesn't know much about the Volunteers right now, but he got his first phone call from Vol running backs coach Stan Drayton on Wednesday.

"I really don't know much about Tennessee," Charles said. "I plan on going up this summer for an unofficial visit. I talked to coach Drayton before we had 7 on 7 yesterday. He was saying that he was going to come down for spring and keep an eye on me. I want to watch them and see how much they use the tight end this fall, so I'll be watching them play."

Charles doesn't have a targeted decision date.

"I'm not sure yet," Charles said about his timetable for a decision. "I'm going to research everything and pray about it. I'll sit down with my family and my pastor and discuss what's best for me."

As for a decision, Charles isn't in a hurry. He says that he wants to take his time and make the best decision he can, thoroughly exploring each school.

"I want to take my official visits and see how that goes," Charles said. "It's all up for grabs."

Rivals.com rates Charles as a 4-star tight end and a member of the Rivals250 for 2009.
