Signing day video: Mike Martin

In-state commit Mike Martin of Detroit Catholic Central pledged to the Wolverines in June, and will finally get to sign with Michigan today. On Tuesday afternoon, he and several other top prospects from the state gathered in Wixom to look forward to the big day. See what Martin had to say in and exclusive video interview.

Mike Martin Video & Highlights

On finally being able to sign after months of being committed:

"It's just a relief. These months of going through the ride have been fun, but to finally have it over with, know what school I'm going to for sure and make it official, it feels really good."

On if he's going to have a party:

"You just gave me a good idea. I might have one now. Yeah, we're having family over and couple friends. So we're just going to make it a really fun event."

On what attracted him to Michigan, and what kept him with U-M through the coaching change:

"The first thing I really loved about Michigan was just what it was about: the school itself, the academics, and the tradition that the school already has. Of course Coach Carr and his staff. But I didn't really choose Michigan because of the staff, because as you know, coaches can leave, and that's what happened.

"With the new staff, I just love everything about them. They're really down to earth guys. Same character as Coach Carr and his staff had."

On learning from the upperclassmen, and what sort of impact he hopes to make:

"First year, I want to come in and be able to get some playing time. I'm ready to work, and I've already been doing that so far. It's a really great opportunity to be able to learn under those guys. My sophomore year, I'll just hopefully be the man there."

On his personal and team expectations:

"I haven't really thought about individual achievements, but we talk about it as a class, we're just ready to win championships and get rings. I mean, individual awards will come with team championships, so that's all we focus on."

On being one of the few recruits that gets to go to Michigan:

"It's a big privilege. It just goes to show you that not everybody gets to go to Michigan or gets and offer there. It's a special place, and this is proof right here."
