What's the latest with Correa's recruitment?
Ranked by Rivals.com as the fifth best prospect from the Aloha State this recruiting cycle, Haku Correa came into his senior season with scholarship offers from Arizona, Hawaii, San Diego State, Colorado and Utah on the table.
It had been three months since Rivals.com last caught up with the 6-foot-1, 265-pound defensive lineman from Damien Memorial in Honolulu. Has much changed with his recruitment?
"No, not really," he stated. "I am hearing from the same schools."
Correa said that San Diego State, Hawaii and Arizona have continued to show the most interest in him. He wants to take official visits, but is not in a rush to set them up.
"Right now I want to worry about passing the ACT and finishing my season, I want to do that before I take any officials," Correa explained.
The Aztecs have often looked to the Islands for linemen. The previous three recruiting classes, San Diego State signed four big men from Hawaii.
"Their coaches have been calling me and have been real cool, telling me information that I want to hear," Correa said of the Aztecs. "So they are definitely a school I am giving consideration."
A second-team all-state selection as a junior last year, Correa recorded 78 tackles and 12 sacks.
Damien Memorial has struggled to a 1-4 record so far this season, but Correa has played well individually. "I have a sack in every game so far," he explained.
What separates Correa from most defensive linemen at the high school level? "I never give up on a play, I keep going," he said. "Coaches have said I have a good motor and I am easy to coach."
