Moss Point DL comes in at No. 11

One of the main reasons that Ed Orgeron has promised to recruit the southern part of the state better is an athlete like this weeks No. 11 selection in the RebelSports.Net State's Top 25 Countdown.

Moss Point's Willie Packer committed to the Rebels on June 26; it didn't come as to much of a surprise as Packer was totally impressed with the Ole Miss camp he attended earlier that month.

Packer, a 6-foot-2, 265-pound defensive end, gives the Rebel a foot up in the recruiting wars in the south part of the Magnolia State.

Others such as DeAndre Brown from Oceans Springs, Gulfport's Michael Lacy and another Moss Point athlete Josh Chestang are just a few other southern prospects that have Ole Miss offers.

Packer attended a camp at Ole Miss in early June, that's all it took to impress the standout defender.

"I love the player's lounge where you can play X Box," Packer said. "Everything is so new and nice. They have a big campus and their indoor facility is the best I have seen."

Orgeron and staff also made an impression on the standout defender.

"They have a great coaching staff," Packer said. "I learned so much in a day, I can only imagine how much I would learn if I chose to go there. They love to get you motivated, I like that a lot."

Packer was quick to answer when asked to describe himself as a player.

"I'm just a monster," he said with a laugh. "I play aggressive. I try to play like Simeon Rice, quick and powerful."

His defensive line coach, Vincent Norvel, agrees.

"He is very explosive," he said. "He makes a tremendous amount of big plays. He's a very good pass rusher and also stops the run pretty well, but he really stands out in the pass rushing."
