Packer may be close to a decision

Ole Miss Head coach Ed Orgeron has said all a long that his summer camps are for teaching and are not recruiting camps.

The results show that Orgeron and his staff are doing something right. While teaching young men they are also receiving some pledges. Last week's camps have already produced two new commitments and the third may be just around the corner.

One of the state's top defensive linemen Willie Packer of Moss Point told RebelSports.Net that there is only one school currently on his mind.

"Right now Ole Miss is all that's on my mind," Packer said Sunday night. "I learned so much at the camp that is going to make me a better lineman this fall. They didn't pressure me at all. Coach Orgeron told me to go home and talk to my dad about it and that they were there when I got ready. I'm pretty close to making up my mind, it could happen soon."

Last week was the first opportunity for Packer to check out Ole Miss, he came away very impressed.

"I love the player's lounge where you can play X Box," Packer said. "Everything is so new and nice. They have a big campus and their indoor facility is the best I have seen."

Orgeron and staff also made an impression on the standout defender.

"They have a great coaching staff," Packer said. "I learned so much in a day, I can only imagine how much I would learn if I chose to go there. They love to get you motivated, I like that a lot."

Currently Packer, a 6-foot-2, 265-pound defensive tackle, has three official offers. Ole Miss, Tennessee and Mississippi State have offered the standout defender.

Packer plans on camping at LSU and Auburn before the summer is over.

"I will probably take in two more camps," Packer said. "I will go to LSU and Auburn for sure, unless I make a decision before then."

Packer was quick to answer when asked to describe himself as a player.

"I'm just a monster," he said with a laugh. "I play aggressive. I try to play like Simeon Rice, quick and powerful."

His defensive line coach, Vincent Norvel, agrees.

"He is very explosive," he said. "He makes a tremendous amount of big plays. He's a very good pass rusher and also stops the run pretty well, but he really stands out in the pass rushing."
