Panthers look to Ohio

From the looks of the juniors who have offers from Pitt, and some of the players who have committed to the Panthers in the first couple of years of the Dave Wannstedt era, it has become evident what Coach Wannstedt is looking for in his future players. He often looks for players from successful programs and athletes who play more than just football. Youngstown (OH) Cardinal Mooney's Brandon Beachum fits the bill.

Beachum is a 6-0, 221-pound running back/linebacker, who is being projected as an outside linebacker in college. Looking down the road at Pitt's linebacker situation, in 2008, Adam Gunn and Scott McKillop will be in their senior years, as will Tommie Campbell. Steve Dell will be a redshirt junior, and Greg Webster and Nate Nix will both be redshirt sophomores. The Panthers bring in Brandon Lindsey, Max Gruder and Tristan Roberts this season. Even if all three of those players do play as true freshmen, the linebacker position will still be a position of need, heading into 2008.
