Healthy Appling hits high gear, scores 27

EAST LANSING - Spartan basketball fans have been waiting for a return to good health for several other players. But on Saturday night, we were reminded of what a full-throttle Keith Appling looks like.

Pushing the ball in the full court at perhaps the fastest we've seen this year, and perhaps the fastest since Kalin Lucas was a healthy sophomore, Appling gave the Spartans an extra burst in transition, helping the senior tie his career high with 27 points, leading No. 5 Michigan State to a 101-48 victory over New Orleans, Saturday at Breslin Center.

Appling's performance was a great bounce-back after struggling in a 14-point victory over Texas last week. Appling was 2-of-11 from the field with just two assists against the Longhorns, while battling soreness from a hip pointer and wrist injury sustained during a nasty fall in MSU's loss to North Carolina earlier in the season.
