Boykin high on Spartan board

One of the top players on the Michigan State recruiting board for the class of 2015 is Miles Boykin of Providence Catholic High School in New Lennox, Illinois. SpartanMag.com was able to catch up with the 4-star prospect and get the detail about his recruitment.

Wide receiver recruiting will be a top priority for the class of 2015. After the 2014 the Spartans will graduate both Tony Lippett and Keith Mumphery. They will need a big wide receiver that can come in and potentially make an early impact. The 6-foot-4, 210-pound Boykin is one of the first players the staff offered for 2015. We asked him how his recruitment is going and if he was able to see any games this fall.

"Everything has been going very good," Boykin stated. "This fall I I've been to Notre Dame, Illinois and Ohio State. The schools that have been showing me the most interest are Michigan State, Ole Miss and Ohio State."

Though it is still early in the process, Boykin already holds an impressive list of scholarship offers. In addition to Michigan State, Boykin has been offered by Virginia tech, Wisconsin, Illinois, Mississippi and several MAC schools. Rival.com has him on the pre-season top 250 player list and rates him as a 5.8 4-star recruit.

Michigan State has made recruiting Illinois a top priority this year and it has already paid off with 4 outstanding commitments. The staff is looking to keep that momentum going into 2015 and Boykin is very interested in learning more about the Spartan program.

"I was up at Michigan State during spring of my sophomore year and I really liked it," he stated. "I plan to go back at least 2 more times this off season. I love the coaching staff they have there. I think I have the best relationship with Coach Samuel and I really like him."

Boykin has mad tremendous strides over the past 12 months in his game and he has attributed much of his progression due to the CORE 6 training program. Michigan State already has multiple CORE 6 commitments for the class of 2014 and Head Coach Mark Dantonio will be one of the featured speakers at the CORE 6 Banquet which will be held on December 11th. Boykin talked about his improvement with Rivals.com.

"To be honest, I thought my progression from sophomore year to junior year was far beyond what I thought it would be," Boykin said. "I put a lot of work in during the season and Core 6 helped me out a lot. Going to all these camps and seeing the talent just made me believe in myself more."

Boykin is still in the early stages of his recruitment, but he is starting to formulate what things he is looking for in his college destination

"The relationship I have with the coaches and good academics are important to me," Boykin stated.

Boykin indicated that he is now focused on his off-season training and working to get bigger, faster and stronger over the coming months. He plans on attending several camps such as the Rivals/UnderArmour Camp and will certainly be one of the players that will garner plenty of attention.

SpartanMag.com will continue to keep in contact with Boykin in the coming weeks. We will be sure to have comments from him following his next visit to East Lansing.

Matt Dorsey's Take: Boykin is a big athletic prospect that could play wide receiver or possible tight end at the next level. The Spartans see him as a potential mismatch type of player. His size will cause smaller defensive backs problems while hiss peed is an issue for linebackers and so9me safeties. The Spartans will be having a big junior day in early 2014 where many of the top recruits will be on campus; we look for Boykin and his family to be in attendance.
