Alessi looking for more

One of the top high school players in Michigan for the class of 2014 is Jason Alessi of Birmingham Brother Rice High School. The 6-foot-1, 180-poudn recruit recently picked up another scholarship offer and is looking for more. has the details.

The Brother Rice Warriors are making a run at another state championship and Alessi is a big reason why. The standout performer has been making plays on offense, defense and special teams. Earlier this week he picked up another scholarship offer. We spoke with him about where his recruitment stands.

"I was just offered by Navy," Alessi stated. "Purdue has been talking to me. They invited me to the game this week but I can't go because of our game. They are coming up to see me soon though. Michigan just offered me a preferred walk on spot."

Alessi now holds scholarship offers from Navy, Air Force, Akron and Cornell.
Alessi's recruitment has been a bit slow to unfold due to two main reasons. The first being tat Brother Rice plays the majority of their game son Saturdays which prevent him from making unofficial college visits. The other is the fact that Brother Rice is still playing and Alessi has yet to put together and send out his full highlight tape.
We asked Alessi about getting his highlights out and if he has been hearing from Michigan State University.
"I sent some mid-season highlights out earlier to some schools, but I'm going to wait until after the season to send it to some more schools. I have talked with Coach Blackwell from Michigan State a few times."

Every year is always surprised about a player that schools seem to be sleeping on. This year Alessi seems to top that list. The fact that MAC schools have not jumped all over him and offered scholarships is odd. Alessi is going to make 1 college coach look like genius.

As many know, Alessi was at one point committed to the University of Michigan for lacrosse. He has backed off that decision in order to see what happens with football. The fact that he has been the best player on the field in several games for Brother Rice is a testament to his ability. Brother Rice plays a schedule that is loaded with opponents who have D1 recruits on the roster. Alessi will get another great chance to showcase his skills this week as Brother Rice take on Detroit Martin Luther King. Alessi will likely find himself matched up with D1 commitments Avonte Maddox (Pitt) and Jalen Embry (Iowa).

Alessi indicated that he is being patient when it comes to his recruitment. He understand that as signing day approaches teams will have scholarship spots they need to fill and more scholarship offers could come. In the meantime he plans on doing his best to help legendary Coach Al Fracassa go out on top with another state championship. will centime to follow the recruitment of Alessi over the coming weeks. Once his senior season ends and his full highlight film gets out, don't be surprised if his offer list expands.

Matt Dorsey's Take: Over a decade ago Mark Dantonio recruited an athlete out of Ohio named Jason Smith to play safety. Smith, who had nothing but Ivy League offers, went on to be a team captain and a NFL starter. Alessi could be the same type of prospect. Dantonio liked Smith due to his all0-aroudn athletic ability. has been told by several sources at Brother Rice that Alessi is possibly the best all-around athlete to walk the halls of Rice in over a decade.
