Izzo on MSU-Kentucky: 'how can you not be excited?'

EAST LANSING - Kentucky basketball coach John Calipari thinks it's unfair that his collection of NBA draft picks has to play Michigan State this early in the season.
Tom Izzo has a solution.

"I think he should forfeit," joked Izzo following his team's 98-56 rout of McNeese State on Friday night. "If Johnny doesn't want to play, I'll take a win. I'm not proud, I'll just take one any way I can get one."

Truthfully, Izzo would be disappointed if No. 1 ranked Kentucky were a no-show for its much-anticipated showdown with No. 2 ranked Michigan State in the third annual Champions Classic on Tuesday at Chicago's United Center.

"How can you not be excited?" said Izzo. "These are the things that you dream about when you are in your backyard, even in the U.P. when it is 40 below zero and you are shooting jump shots on that net that is frozen solid.

"You just dream of the opportunity to play in big games."
