Romelo Trimble Excited by Musketeer Offer

2014 three-star combo guard Romelo Trimble was impressed with what Xavier head coach Chris Mack had to tell him when he called to extend an offer a few days ago.

"He told me about he has coached some great point guards in the past," Trimble told MusketeerScoop, "He had Chris Paul at Wake Forest who is one of my favorite point guards; then he also had Tu Holloway who is in the NBA Draft. That's really impressive."

Trimble, who hails from the Washington DC area, just began to receive interest from Xavier earlier in the spring when new assistant coach Mike Pegues (a fellow DC area native) was hired by Mack. Since then that attention has steadily increased, culminating in the scholarship offer being extended Trimble's way.

At the next level the 6-foot-2 guard is trying to become more of a pass-first point guard, but right now he sees himself as a scoring combo guard.

"I basically try and just play aggressively, I like to score and penetrate to the basket. I can hit open shots. I'm working on becoming more of a pure point guard. A lot of the time I play off the ball and am counted on to put up points, but I eventually want to be the one running the team."

Coming from Bishop O'Connell high school in Arlington (VA), Trimble is no stranger to winning basketball. In fact, when Xavier began recruiting him in May he already knew a little bit about the program.

"I know that they make the tournament every year. That's really important to me," Trimble said.

In addition to the Musketeers, the three-star guard says that he is hearing the most from Rutgers, Maryland, Villanova, Georgetown, NC State, Virginia Tech, Miami (FL), and Notre Dame; but has no timetable of decision making process in place yet.

Trimble stated that, "Basically I'm just looking for a place where I can come in and make an immediate impact. Other then that I don't have a list of what's most important yet, I'm still looking around."

After showing his game the upper most level of respect by offering a scholarship, Xavier stands high on Trimble's list. So high in fact that the Musketeers should plan on seeing his face around campus sometime in the coming months.

"I want to get out to Xavier and Notre Dame in the fall, sometime in the beginning of my school year. I can't wait to visit those two schools."
