An early look at 2013 recruiting
It is hard to believe there could be two more different recruiting classes or needs than the recruiting classes for Colorado State in 2012 and 2013. As the July recruiting period gets underway, we took a gander at the Rams' needs and scholarship availability for 2012. Today, we take a very early look at the recruiting class of 2013.
The Class of 2013
An overview: Things get a little more interesting in 2013. The Rams should have a many as six scholarships coming open after a large class of seniors leave. Only four current Rams will be on the roster in 2013, leaving a large void for CSU to fill through the recruiting class.
Whose leaving: The Rams roster will take a heavy hit after the 2012 season as Jesse Carr, Wes Eickmeier, Pierce Hornung, Colton Iverson, Dorian Green and Greg Smith run out of eligibility. The guard court will be especially hard-hit as all but Iverson play a backcourt position. Their departures could leave the Rams to fill as many as six scholarship slots in one class.
Those numbers have the Rams' coaches out beating the bushes for a new group of prospects.
Who the Rams are looking at: Clearly the 2013 class is in its infancy at this point in the year. The Rams are making their presence known, but it is a pretty rare thing to take a commitment two years down the line.
The Rams have offered a scholarship to seven-footer Carson Shanks of Apple Valley (Minn.). He has an offer from CSU and Northern Iowa at this point, but before too long expect to see offers from most of the Big Ten to Shanks, who has been on CSU's campus.
He told BadgerBlitz this week that he enjoyed Fort Collins (despite the site's contention Colorado State was in the Springs) and the CSU campus.
Six-foot, 9-inch Akoy Agaualso has a CSU offer. He is a friend of Dwight and Greg Smith out of Omaha who also holds offers from Tennessee, Nebraska and is getting interest from Iowa, Texas and North Carolina. While the connections are nice, the CSU coaches would be very, very hard-pressed to reel this one into Fort Collins.
Parker Callendarget a CSU offer. The Houston-area swing man has been on-campus previously as well.
