Cook stacked up well at Elite 11

This past weekend Michigan State quarterback commitments Connor Cook of Walsh Jesuit High school in Ohio attended the Elite 11 Quarterback Camp. Cook came into the event somewhat under the radar of many national analysts despite his early commitments. Much like current Spartan quarterback Andrew Maxwell, Cook left the event considered one of the best quarterback prospects in the Midwest.

Cook's performance drew high praise:

"This tall, lean, athletic quarterback has one of the quickest releases in the country. He does need to add some strength and overall size which will increase his already adequate arm strength. He puts nice spin on his passes and is very accurate at short and midrange throws. He is ahead of the game in a lot of ways because he takes snaps under center on a regular basis and that was evident with his drops in this camp. Sometimes he puts too much air on his fades and deeper passes, but this could be adjusted with a proper transfer of weight. Cook has the most upside of any quarterback in this camp and the Spartan fans should be excited." -Barry Every talked with Cook about his Elite 11 experience.

The camp was really neat, Cook stated. The instruction from the coaches was incredible. The coaches really know what they are talking about and they coached me up on what I need to improve on. I felt that I was really prepared for the whole camp because I have been working out hard doing a lot of similar things all offseason. I truly felt I was one of the best quarterbacks there"

What was some of the feedback the coaches gave you specifically?

"The coaches complimented me on my footwork, Cook said. They said I had the best footwork of all the quarterbacks there. They also said I need to improve on my follow through and to not over-stride on my first step."

The next step is whether or not Cook will be selected to the Elite 11 team. His performance at the event certainly put him under serious consideration. He may attend another Elite 11 function to go up against other quarterback prospects. asked Cook when he will be back in East Lansing and if he has spoken with any Spartan recruits lately?

"I will be back up at Michigan State in June for their 1-day Senior Camp. I have been keeping in-touch with several recruits. I just spoke with Andre Sims last night and I also have spoken with Doran Grant, Shaq Washington and DeAnthony Arnett."

The recruitment of Cook and his subsequent performance at the Elite 11 is another prime example of the excellent job the Michigan State staff does in the early evaluation period. will be sure to follow-up with Cook over the coming weeks and report on whether or not he is selected an Elite 11 Quarterback.
