DE MacLean gives the latest

One of the top in-state prospects that Mark Dantonio and the Michigan State staff are closely evaluating for the class of 2013 is LB/DE Luke MacLean of Grand Blanc high School. SpartanMag.com spoke with the 6-foot-4, 235-pound prospects and got the latest on his recruitment.

Last weekend MacLean was in East Lansing checking out the Green and White Game. SpartanMag.com asked him about his time on campus.

"I was good, he stated. The defensive looked really good out there. I was able to talk with the coaches, some of the players and spend some time with the other recruits. I know Gerald Holmes from Grand Blanc. His dad and my dad get along well. I also have been friends with Jon Reschke for a while too. I also spoke with Will Gholston."

MacLean has seen his recruiting stock steadily rise the past few weeks. During the spring evaluation period he has seen a steady stream of coaches come through Grand Blanc High school to evaluate him. He talked about the coaches that have been by school and his current list of scholarships.

"Right now I have offers from Buffalo, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Central Michigan, Western Michigan and Toledo," MacLean said. "The defensive coordinator from Iowa was at my school the other day watching me workout. The day before that a coach from Pittsburgh was at my track meet. Michigan State, Cincinnati, Indiana and several others have been by as well."

What type of feedback have you received from Michigan State?

I spoke with Coach Barnett on Saturday after rteh game, he just told me to make sure I come up to camp which I will be doing. Coach Dantonio has not seen me in person. I did not go to their camp last summer like guy like Jon Reschke and Gerald Holmes did. I know I need to go up there and work with the coaches. If I perform well I will have a great chance of getting a scholarship offer from them."

Landing an offer from Michigan State will put the Spartans in a very strong position when it comes to his recruitment, but MacLean is not putting all of his eggs in one basket.

"In addition to Michigan State, I also plan on going down to Indiana this summer. I also want to get out to Iowa and I plan on going to Pittsburgh to see what they have to offer."

SpartanMag.com scouted MacLean at the Adidas Maximum Exposure Combine in Ann Arbor last month and he was one of the top performers at the event. He showed the ability to explode of the edge and consistently get to the quarterback no matter who lined up against him. The Spartans want to see if Maclean has the ability to be a player much like current defensive end Marcus Rush.

Spartanmag.com will continue to keep in contact with Maclean in the coming weeks. Of the in-state recruits available, MacLean may have the best chance of earning a Michigan State scholarship from Head Coach Mark Dantonio.
