Dantonio addresses Dream Teamers

DETROIT, Mich. - It was a busy week for Spartan football coaches who were on the road recruiting for much of the past week in addition getting their team ready to play Alabama in the Capital One Bowl. The Michigan State staff also found the time to attend the annual National Football Foundation/Detroit Free Press Dream Team Awards Banquet last week.

Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio was accompanied by his entire staff. The Big Ten coach of the Year was the keynote speaker at the event. It was the third time during Dantonio's tenure at Michigan State that he has been a featured speaker at the Dream Team Banquet.

Dantonio encouraged the members of the Dream Team to relish events like the banquet they were at and the awards the achieved in high school before moving on to the challenge of college football. He also stressed the importance of family.

"One of the things that I think is the most important is the relationship with your parents, your grandmother, your uncle, your mom or your dad, your brother. Whoever it is, there is somebody special in your life that has pushed you forward … In this society right now, I think it is so difficult to sustain, continue to move forward. So many people are looking for instant gratification and instant success. If you don't get it, you move on to something else. Somebody pushed you through this. You don't get there by yourself."
