March 5, 2009 Cincinnati (Ohio) Moeller tight end prospect David Schneider was one of several unofficial visitors during Michigan State's junior day on Feb. 22, and SpartanMag.com caught up with him recently.During his time on the MSU campus, Schneider (6-3, 220-pounds) came away impressed with the transformations taking place in the Spartan program under head coach Mark Dantonio and his staff. "I thought it was a really good school and they're a very good program and all the coaches were real good. I think it was one of the top schools I've seen so far," Schneider said, adding that he has been to a junior day at Cincinnati and unofficially visited Notre Dame this past fall for the Irish's game against Syracuse. "But I'm going to see OU (Ohio), Toledo, and Michigan and Northwestern," Schneider added of future junior day stops. At the time of this interview, Schneider believed his first offer was on the way. "(Ohio's) supposedly giving me an offer on Saturday (Feb. 28) and New Mexico State likes me a lot. I got a letter from Michigan, a hand-written letter, asking me to come to their junior day on the 13th of March," Schneider shared. "UC likes me a lot, but they already offered (Cincinnati Lakota West tight end) Alex Smith, so I'm not sure where that's going to go. Toledo likes me. Indiana and Northwestern; I get a lot of mail from Northwestern, and Illinois." "I really hope Michigan State gives me an offer, or any school in the Big Ten," Schneider continued. "I really want to play in the Big Ten." But the Spartans are still in the evaluation stages with Schneider. "I talked to Harlon Barnett (the Tuesday after junior day) actually and he said that he watched my film and that he really liked it, and the tight ends coach really liked it. And now their running backs coach is about to watch it tomorrow and he's going to get back to me," Schneider said. " And they see me ? they already have tight ends right now ? so they're seeing more of like an H-back. And they really like how I have good hands and I'm really quick, that's what he told me today." When asked what he's looking for in his future academic and athletic home, Schneider said: "I really want to go into business, so I'm looking for a good business schools, and I'm looking for a large school with a good student body. I want the class sizes not too big, but good enough so I can get a chance to meet the teachers and stuff, and I need to have good tutors and all that stuff." Schneider hopes to make an early decision. "I'm hoping before this season. I hope I commit before the season, but if it doesn't happen it doesn't happen," he said. "But I really want to commit before the season starts." |
