January 29, 2008 Michigan State played host to linebacker Yourhighness Morgan of South Sumter High School in Bushnell, Florida this past weekend. SpartanMag.com caught up with Morgan last night and he gave us the latest details on his recruitment and when a decision will be made.Morgan is a 6-foot-2, 227-pound linebacker that has been clocked as fast as 4.53 seconds in the forty-yard dash. He just finished up an outstanding senior year in which he was named 1st Team All-State in Division 2A. Rivals.com rates Morgan a 3-star prospect and the #44 inside linebacker prospect in the nation for the class of 2008. We asked Morgan about his visit to East Lansing. "I really liked it a lot," he said. "It was the best visit I have had so far. I really liked the history and the tradition of Michigan State." Morgan was hosted on his visit by fellow Florida product Ashton Henderson. In addition, he spent plenty of time with All-American linebacker Greg Jones. Morgan talked about the time he spent meeting with the Michigan State Coaches. "I liked them a lot. I met with Coach (Pat) Narduzzi and we had a film session together. That was cool. He liked how I recognized plays and picked things up quickly. Then I spent time with Coach (Mike) Tressel as well. He told me they really only have five linebackers on scholarship returning. If I come in and work hard I would have a chance to play right away." Did you get to spend time with Head Coach Mark Dantonio? "Yes, I spent time with him at his home and I also met with him before I left. He told me he would like to come down and meet with my mom and me." Morgan indicated that the current facilities at Michigan State as well as the continuing upgrades show just how committed Michigan State is to its football program. So is it safe to say that you will be playing in the Big Ten next fall? "I hadn't told anybody, but I had committed to Florida Atlantic last week," Morgan said. "So now I have to figure things out. The FAU coaches are supposed to come see me and Coach Barnett is also supposed to catch up with me as well. I should know something one way or another by the end of the week." Obviously the visit to Michigan State has made a strong impression on Morgan. The question now is whether to play for an up in coming program in the Big Ten against the likes of Ohio State, Notre Dame and Penn State or stay closer to home and play for the Owls who are coming off a very successful season in their own right? SpartanMag.com will be sure to follow-up with Morgan at the end of the week to get the details. |
