February 27, 2012Roughly one week after taking an unofficial visit to Wisconsin for its junior day, Garret Dooley gave a verbal commitment to the Badgers Sunday evening, according to a report in The State Journal-Register.
Dooley confirmed the commitment with BadgerBlitz.com early Monday morning.
"I feel great," Dooley said in the article. "It feels like a lot of pressure has been lifted off my chest. Now I can just focus on the rest of my junior year and my senior year, I can just play football. That's all I want to do."
When UW extended a scholarship on Feb. 18, the 6-foot-2, 215-pound linebacker held just one other offer from Northern Illinois. As the next week began, Indiana, Illinois and Vanderbilt all entered the mix.
However, after a very impressive day in Madison, many felt it was only a matter of time before Dooley pledged to Wisconsin.
"In my mind it would be really, really hard to top that school (UW)," Dooley told BadgerBlitz.com after his visit. "As of right now I'm really considering that offer.
"I'll definitely have to speak more with my parents and see how this goes. I want to talk with my coach and make a decision."
Dooley is the second known verbal commit in the Badgers' 2013 recruiting class with tight end Scott Orndoff already on board.
The 2013 class is expected to have limited numbers and linebacker is not an area of great concern. Should Wisconsin elect to add another prospect at that position, Tim Kimbrough and Buddy Brown are atop the recruiting board.
