Ashley makes trip to Louisville
Cincinnati St. Xavier running back Darius Ashley got a scholarship offer on Tuesday from the University of Louisville, and on Friday the 5-foot-9 speedster decided to make an unofficial visit to meet Cardinal head coach Steve Kragthorpe and talk to members of his coaching staff.
"It was nice; I liked it a lot," Ashley told Cardinalsports.com Friday afternoon as he travelled back home to Cincinnati. "I got to sit down with Coach Kragthorpe and all of the offensive coaches."
Coming into the trip, Ashley said the coaches wanted to show him how they planned to use him in their offense. "They just want me to be able to play anywhere," he mentioned. "They want me to catch the ball out of the backfield and everything like that. It was very insightful. It was pretty much what I had in mind."
He said one of the highlights was sitting down with running backs coach Tony Alford for a 20-minute conversation and film session, as the new coach showed the prospect how the Cards could use him. "Having the chance to talk to the coaches individually with all of their busy schedules and media appointments meant a lot to me," the player said.
So how do the Cards stand after the visit? "It definitely helped them," Ashley answered. "I didn't know much about them coming in, and now I do. It was very insightful.
"They didn't put any pressure on me to commit or anything," he added. "They know when I find somewhere that feels right I will. They just wished me luck wherever I go, whether that be Louisville or somewhere else."
