Spartans add standout punter
Head Coach Mark Dantonio and the Michigan State Spartans received their 16th commitment to the 2014 class earlier today when punter Jake Hartbarger from Anthony Wayne High School in Whitehouse, Ohio committed to the Spartans.
Hartbarger commented on facebook:
Officially committed to the University of Michigan State on a full-scholarship🏈 truly blessed.
The 6-foot-4, 195-pound Hartbarger selected the Spartans over scholarship offers from Oklahoma, Iowa State, Toledo and Miami of Ohio.
Hartbarger is the 5th Ohio prospect to commit to Michigan State; he joins defensive back Vayante Copeland, linebacker Chris Frey, defensive end Robert Bowers and quarterback Chris Durkin as Buckeye State Spartans.
Hartbarger attended the Kohl's Kicking Camp this past summer and was a standout. He was ranked the #2 punter in the nation by Kohl's Kicking. The had the following to say about him:
"Jake competed at the 2013 National Invitational Scholarship Camp and came away a star, he kicked well on FG and KO but his greatest upside is as a D1 punter, Hartbarger hit "bombs" in front of 1,200 people in the final round. He showed 5.0 hang-times on punts that traveled over 50 yards in the air, Jake has a D1 frame and D1 athleticism, should play early in college" -Kohl's Kicking Camp
Hartbarger is coming to Michigan State and is expected to red-shirt. He will learn behind All-Big Ten performer Mike Sadler and then assume the punting position for the following 4 years.
Hartbarger is the 2nd Spartan commitment that will play in a post season All-American contest. He has committed to play in the Under Armour All-American Game in January. Spartan center commitment Brian Allen will be playing in the Army All-American Game.
