Maxwell: 'We are going to find the details'
EAST LANSING - In a game of inches, Michigan State has been on the wrong side of the measuring stick during the 2012 season.
With one contest remaining in Big Ten play, and a bowl bid riding on the outcome, junior quarterback Andrew Maxwell and his teammates are focused on the details they believe will guide them to a victory at Minnesota this weekend.
"We do realize how close we are and we do realize that it is the details that have put us in the position that we are in," said Maxwell. "We are in a playoff right now, it is win or go home. Now is the week that we need to find the inches. Now is the week that we need to find the details and pay attention to them. I think everybody is buying in.
"We talked on Sunday and made a promise to each other that this week we are going to find the details in every single thing that we do, whether that be going to a tutor, whether that be showing up to a lift on time, whether that be cleaning up your plate at training table. If you start finding those inches throughout the week, then I think we will find them on Saturday and we are going to like the results."
The details have eluded Michigan State at critical moments throughout the 2012 season. Which is one of the reasons why the Spartans are fighting for bowl eligibility.
"It is the inches, it's the details," said Maxwell. "They are everywhere throughout a football game and I think that is very clear and very evident if you look at tape of all our games this year. You can look at just one or two plays, if they go a different way, you are looking at a different outcome. But that is the game, that is what the game has always been, and that is what we need to realize and what we need to respect."
