SpartanMag.com: Bunker Recruiting Notes

ATH Delton Williams of Erie Cathedral Prep, Pennsylvania

Williams has come outs and stated that he plans on deciding between Michigan state and West Virginia this weekend. The decision, if it takes place, will not happen until after the game versus rival Erie McDowell High School. Williams told SpartanMag.com the following: "If you don't hear it from me, I did not do it." That statement would leave some to believe that it is possible that Williams may decide to hold off on his announcement. Could Williams holding off have something to do with Michigan State trying to figure out how to make scholarship room for him?

DB Brandon Arnold of Encino High School, California
We caught up with Arnold last night and he confirmed that he is still hearing from Michigan State and the idea of an official visit has been talked about, but nothing has been set up. Arnold is being recruited by Coach Ted Gill. This may be a situation where MSU has been keeping the flame on warm to see what happens with Williams and scholarship numbers. Arnold said he hopes to take an official visit to Cal the weekend of October 20th when the host Stanford.

DL Ruben Dunbar of Glenbard West High School, Illinois
Earlier this spring Dunbar had the Spartans listed as his leader, but he has not really put a priority on his recruitment as far as camps or college visits. In the meantime the Spartans picked up a commitment from DE Demetrius Cooper and DT Devyn Salmon. Dunbar has a Spartan scholarship, but it may not be one he could commit to at this point in time. MSU still wants to add another DL to the class, but Dunbar may have to wait if he wants to play for the Green and White.

OT David Knevel of Pauline Johnson Collegiate, Ontario
The massive OT prospect is still on the Spartan radar, but he does not have a scholarship offer. Knevel did not camp at Michigan State and the Spartans want to evaluate his game film from this fall. The problem with that is that Knevel's film is not against the type of competition he would face in the states. The Spartans only have 1 OL committed for the class of 2013, but he is a good one in Dennis Finley. Couple that with the information that Jack Conklin is looking like a solid addition to the class of 2012 and the Spartans may not offer another OL.

DT Kyle Peko of Cerritos Community College, California
The Spartans hosted Peko for the EMU game and as Jim Comaproni reported he had a great time. The fact that Fou Fonoti will be back next year due to his injury actually could help Michigan State in this one. Peko still wants to take a few more visits, but the smart money would be on him ending up following the path that has been so successful for his cousins. The Spartan graduate 2 DT's and could use a JUCO DT that can participate in spring practice,

ATH Marcus Ball
Ball has been visiting several school that last few weeks and seems to be open to all of his top suitors, which includes Michigan State, Notre Dame , Wisconsin and Arizona State. The early word was that he would follow his brother to Wisconsin, but the latest information we have from our sources is thateh Fighting Irish have moved to the forefront and would be the choice if he decided today. Like the Spartsn, the Irish are very tight on scholarships and it could come doewn to a first come-first serve situation for a few players who are considering the Domers.

K Brett Scanlon of Dowgiac High School, Michigan
Spartanmag.com profiled Scanlon earlier this week and we did so because he is a player that the staff is very high on. The issue is finding a scholarship and it may end up being a grey-shirt option for the string leg Scanlon. The Spartsn took a talendt walk-on last year in Evan Fischer, but we have heard his leg strength is not as good as Scanlon's. Fischer is very accurate though. Scanlong has kicked double-digit kickoffs through the uprights this fall. Dowagiac is the home school of Sparts Caoch Mark Staten so he is very familiar with Scanlon and the program

DL Josh Augusta of Peoria High School, Illinois
Augusta is one of the top uncommitted prospect in the Midwest and at this point he has yet to take or schedule any official visits yet. Missouir andMichigans tate are both activekly recruiting him and it could come down to which school has a better season and gets him and his family on campus first. The Tigers and Spartsn are 3-2 and neither rteam is happy about it. The team that can right the ship and host him could be in good shape. If Peoria is done playing on November 3rd, do not be surpsied if the staff loosk to host him on campus.

As Spartanmag.com has stated, schoalrships are extremely tight at this point. The factthat Fou will return actually took a scholarship away for the class of 2013, but the staff certainly is not complaing. The Spartsn would like to sign 16 plauyers to this class, but thei are still severa iunknown factors that will imaopct the numbers. One way or another we expect 2 or 3 of the palyers above to be in Gren and White next fall.
