Fonoti's secret plan to return home for the holidays
Fonoti Holiday Plans/Football
EAST LANSING - Last week, while taking questions about Michigan State's upcoming game against Georgia in the Outback Bowl, Spartan offensive tackle Fou Fonoti was asked what his plans were for the holidays.
Fonoti let the press corps in on his secret plans to visit his parents in Lakewood, Calif.
Fonoti, a first-year player in the Michigan State program and a junior college transfer from Cerritos College, said he planned to surprise his mother and father by showing up at their house this weekend, in time for Christmas.
After finishing final exams and practice last week, Fonoti was free to leave. Fonoti fibbed and told his mother that he had to stay in East Lansing for extra practices, temporarily making Mark Dantonio out to be the football scrooge.
After telling this story into multiple cameras, Fonoti then asked that we keep it a secret until he had a chance to get back home.
With the information having been embargoed for more than a week, Fonoti's Christmas tale is now free for public consumption.
The above is the full interview with Fonoti following practice last week. This unedited interview also includes his thoughts on his areas of progress since September and what he needs to work on in the short and long term.
The interview also includes an exclusive exchange between Fonoti and SpartanMag.com about Fonoti's meeting with cousin Tupe Peko at the Big Ten Championship Game, and brief background on Fonoti's relationship with Tupe and Domata Peko.
For those starving for a little college football fix on a holiday weekend, wrapped in a developmental update, and some "where are they now" alumni info, the above interview should provide a nice weekend filler.
